The Horton Bull Runs - a potted history
The Horton Bull Run began as a Fun Run in 1983 mainly as a fundraising event for the local village hall. ‘The Green Goddess’, Diana Moran, who at that time was a quite famous ‘keep fit’ celebrity, opened the run. It was an era when running on roads was beginning to be popular with individuals and many towns and villages holding their own events. Having said this, Horton started off with a fairly respectable 6 mile run which attracted a field of good amateur runners as well as people who had never run before, other than for a bus!
Rather like ‘Forest Gump’ it seems that people have just had to keep on running and the event has been held every spring since, although we have now changed the name to ‘Bull Run’ in line with the mascot of the village (a bull).
